Pay attention to the development of VR! Facebook super thousand people dedicated to VR development

Facebook's focus on virtual reality (VR) is obvious to all. Apart from spending $2 billion to acquire Oculus, many CEOs of Mark's Zuckerberg have personally been involved in VR events since then. However, two pieces of information from Facebook indicate that the company's emphasis on virtual reality may be far more than you think.

A statement by Brendan Iribe, head of PC VR at the Oculus team, and a quarterly report from Facebook showed that more than 5% of the company’s overall workforce is dedicated to virtual reality.

Facebook submitted a quarterly report this week. In this report, Facebook describes data on the size of the company and its growth over the past year. One of the reports described as: "As of March 31, 2017, the number of employees was 18,770, an increase of 38% over the same period last year."

Due to policy issues, Facebook declined to comment on the size of its various teams. However, Iribe gave a speech at the Unity Vision Summit summit in Los Angeles this week. When asked why he resigned from Oculus CEO, Iribe's response revealed some information: “When we cooperated with Zuckerberg At the time, we had only 60 employees... After we entered Facebook, we planned to increase the team to more than 1,000 people. Along the way, I started spending most of my time recruiting people and spending a lot of time managing the organization.”

Iribe did not specify that the VR team has grown to more than 1,000 employees, but this at least means that more than 5% of their plan is dedicated to this technology. We have already asked the specific numbers of Facebook employees currently working on VR/AR, and if we receive the news, it will be presented for the first time.
