Recently, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announced that the company's optoelectronics portfolio has added a complete range of micro-automatic gain control classification 5 ( AGC5 ) infrared receivers for the remote control system - AGC5 . Vishay 's AGC5 devices are suitable for short pulse coding with excellent noise rejection and optimum reception distance under noisy conditions.
Dim LCD backlighting, plasma screen noise, any fluorescent light, and major ambient light noise sources that severely impact the performance of the infrared system have no effect on Vishay 's AGC5 devices.
These IR receivers are more resistant to ambient light and are less sensitive to ripple and noise in the supply voltage, optimized for remote control applications in industrial and consumer products such as set-top boxes, LCD TVs and DVD players. In these applications, stable transmission distances and clean signals in the presence of optical noise are extremely important.
Each receiver includes a photodetector and preamplifier circuit mounted in an epoxy-sealed module, and a transparent module can be used as an infrared lens. The AGC5 receiver can operate from a supply voltage of 2.5V to 5.5V. The minimum irradiance is 0.1 to 0.15mW/m2 depending on the package. This means that most standard remotes can travel up to 45 meters in dark environments. The module's carrier frequency range is 30kHz to 56kHz, and the supply current is as low as 0.35mA, which is in compliance with RoHS 2002/95/EC and WEEE 2002/96/EC specifications.
