EEPROM-based system monitor MAX16031/MAX1603

Overview

The MAX16031/MAX16032 configurable EEPROM system monitors integrate a 10-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) to monitor voltage, temperature, and current in complex systems. The EEPROM configurable device allows the user to set the operating range, upper and lower limits, fault output and operating mode, and store relevant data for greater flexibility.

The MAX16031 monitors up to eight voltages, three temperature points (one internal temperature / two remote temperature diodes), and one current; the MAX16032 can monitor six voltages and two temperature points (one internal temperature / one) Remote temperature diode). All monitoring parameters are multiplexed into the ADC and written to their respective registers, which can be read via the SMBusTM and JTAG interfaces.

The measured value is compared with the upper and lower limits set by the user. For voltage measurements, there are two undervoltage thresholds and two overvoltage thresholds. For current and temperature measurements, there are two overcurrent thresholds and two over-current limits. Once the measurement is outside the threshold, an alarm will be generated and the processor will be notified. Provides independent overcurrent, overtemperature, and undervoltage/overvoltage indication outputs for the specified channel. The device also features a non-specific fault indication output that provides secondary monitoring for temperature, current, or voltage faults, as well as an independent overvoltage detection output.

In the event of a critical fault (such as a system shutdown), the MAX16031/MAX16032 automatically copy the contents of the internal ADC registers to the non-volatile EEPROM registers for later readback during troubleshooting.

The MAX16031/MAX16032 provide auxiliary GPIOs for voltage sequencing, auxiliary fault detection outputs, manual reset inputs, or read/write logic. Current sense amplifiers with independent outputs can be quickly turned off in an overcurrent condition. The MAX16031/MAX16032 are available in a 7mm x 7mm TQFN package and operate over the -40°C to +85°C temperature range.
