Nichia Chemical Industry licenses white light-emitting diode (LED) related patents to Stanley Electric. The number of licenses is approximately 90 patents, including: a combination of a blue LED chip and a phosphor to produce a white LED, a white LED core - a blue LED chip, a phosphor material combined with the chip when a white LED is fabricated, and the like. This is basically the same as the white LED related patents authorized by Nichia Chemical Industry to Citizen Electronics. The license fee was not disclosed.
In addition to providing authorization, Nichia Chemical Industry will begin supplying blue LED chips to Stanley Electric. Tian Qideng, deputy director of the Nichia Chemical Industry, believes: "Through this cooperation, especially through the highly competitive global automotive industry, which is expected to grow in the future, the in-vehicle market will become the global leader in this market."
Stanley Electric has also been manufacturing and selling white LEDs. This time, the white LED product line will be expanded through a licensing contract with Nichia Chemical Industry. The white LED manufactured by the combination of Stanley Electric's technology and Nichia's patented technology is not limited to automotive applications, but is also intended for a wide range of applications such as large displays and lighting equipment. Stanley Electric was previously authorized by US Cree's US patent 6,600,175 for white LED related patents. The rights of this US patent are said to be relatively large.
