Amazon applies for a patent for AR goggles and invests a lot in the AR field

Amazon filed a patent application for AR goggles specifically designed for warehouse workers, titled "Augmented Reality User Interface Facilitates Implementation," which includes AR glasses connected to worn or carried computing devices.

AR goggles are designed to help navigate Amazon's large warehouses (often more than 90,000 square meters) where Amazon stores its wide range of products, showing the screen orientation of the next product that needs to be pulled from the shelf.

According to the patent application information, AR goggles can track multiple variables, including "direction data, pitch, yaw, accelerometer data". As critics have pointed out, this may mean that Amazon can track walking speed, exact location, and where employees are.

In some embodiments, the wearable computing device may be configured to provide staff instructions and/or visual indicators to staff wearing the wearable computing device that does not move.

The patent was filed in March 2017. The patent shows that, connected to a worn or carried computing device, AR glasses can superimpose the route planning instructions from one project to the next in the field of view. In addition, it can instruct workers to place specific items in specific locations in the warehouse.

Amazon is investing heavily in the AR field, and the previous patent application for Amazon's AR fitting room was exposed.

More specifically, this is a mirror that allows you to try on clothes in a virtual environment. Unlike ordinary mirrors, these clothes are not real and appear through AR digital mapping.

The device uses a combination of display, camera and technology to provide customers with the opportunity to fit on AR. Although the mirror can be photographed, it is not so clear. This is probably a compromise of the function of the fitting mirror in the future.

Currently, Amazon is applying for a patent for the device. Last year, Amazon acquired 3D human body modeling company Body Labs, which can provide 3D human body modeling technology. The company mainly provides assistance to clothing retailers to better recommend sizes to consumers in order to reduce returns.
