According to a report from Korea Industrial Research Institute, sales of semiconductor design in China reached US$5.76 billion in 2013, a significant increase of 28.1% from the same period in 2012, and the global market share increased from 6% to 7%. On the contrary, the export volume of similar products in Korea was only 1.744 billion U.S. dollars. Although the year-on-year growth rate was a slight increase of 2.6%, the share of the global market share fell from 2.3% to 2.1%. Although the US slightly declined by 0.5%, it still ranks first in the global market with a share of 68%. After a slight increase of 0.3%, Taiwan ranks second with a ratio of 17.2%. China HiSilicon and Spreadtrum Communications both ranked among the top 20 global sales, with 12, 16, respectively, but none of the Korean companies were short-listed.

According to the report, currently there are more than 500 semiconductor design companies in China. Although the semiconductor supply depends heavily on imports, the competitiveness of Chinese semiconductor design companies, especially system semiconductors (non-storage) companies, has continued to grow as the market for low-end and mid-range smart phones has prospered. Promote. Due to the full support of the Chinese government in development funds, large-scale integrated circuit (IC) manufacturing equipment and engineering technology development, the continuous strengthening of China’s semiconductor design will inevitably change the existing global semiconductor industry with the focus on Korea, the United States, and Japan. , And China or will enter the field of storage semiconductors. The Korean research department suggested that Korean companies should not place too much emphasis on the storage semiconductor field. Instead, they should step up their efforts to acquire or cooperate with Chinese semiconductor design companies. At the same time, they should strengthen cooperation with Taiwanese semiconductor design companies, enhance their design capabilities, and vigorously develop the Chinese market.
