Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) announced today that it has introduced the 1500 mA white LED driver ADP1650, which is the latest addition to the ADI portfolio of power management and inductive flash drivers. The ADP1650 offers exceptional flexibility, such as programmable I 2 C compatible interface, programmable flashlight current and flash current (up to 1500mA for 1 LED), two independent TxMASK inputs, and a 4-bit ADC.
This new LED driver offers high conversion efficiency of 85% under a typical battery voltage, reducing input battery current during flash operation and limiting battery current consumption in flashlight mode. The ultra-compact ADP1650 measures only 2 mm x 1.5 mm in a 12-pin WLCSP package, reducing PCB (printed circuit board) requirements.
Jose Rodriguez, technical director of ADI's power management technology group, said that camera quality is one of the characteristics that consumers are extremely concerned about when choosing a mobile phone, because many camera phones are photographed by consumers as they like, and their location may be darker. At the time, it may be talking on the phone, so consumers will expect a good flash to assist photography.
The ADP1650 combines a programmable 1.5 MHz or 3.0 MHz synchronous inductive boost converter, a miniature, 1 mm high, low cost 1 μH power inductor and several 0603 size input capacitors in less than 17 mm2 of area. With output capacitors, a complete high-power flash design is achieved. The operating efficiency of this new LED driver over the full battery voltage range enables more efficient conversion of input power to LED power and minimizes battery current consumption during flash. The ADP1650 can be designed into the limited battery current operation of flash circuits, and it is easy to connect to the latest image sensors and image processors to provide superior shooting quality in low light conditions.
