U.S. investment bank Rodman & Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar released an investment report on Thursday that the Apple iPad 2 tablet will be equipped with a dual-core chip and will be the first Apple consumer electronics product to be equipped with a dual-core chip.
Industry insiders point out that whether or not the content of the Kumar report is accurate, the iPad must be equipped with dual-core chips sooner or later in order to compete with Motorola and RIM's upcoming tablets. Both Motorola and RIM's tablet PCs will be equipped with dual-core chips.
Configuring a dual-core chip will give the tablet similar multi-tasking capabilities to the PC. Kumar pointed out in the report that the iPhone will also be equipped with dual-core chips.
Kumar also talked about the supply and demand of the iPad. "The iPad supply can meet the market demand. Apple can maintain the supply of 6 million units per quarter. In 2011, Apple will occupy half of the tablet computer market."
