Escapeculture's 50th anniversary project of Espaceculture lGeorges-mile-Lapalme was refurbished and Lightemotion played a key role. Under the direction of art director and project manager Luc Plamondon, Lightemotion worked closely with architects MenkèsShooner Dagenais LeTourneux and Provencher Roy + Associés.
The refurbishment of the Art Square station began in May 2009. The renovation area includes all the entrances and gates of the five cinemas, the ticketing area, the multi-functional display area, and the central cinema space under the huge skylight. Changes in these areas made it possible to highlight Pierre Granche's artwork and also designed a Place Deschamps fashion bar. The bar has a small stage and multimedia area. The multimedia area is located in the renovated central corridor.
The project also includes the renovation of the exterior of the main entrance and the outdoor plaza. For the customer, refurbishment changes the appearance of the art center, but also changes the feeling it brings. There is a large door cover at the gate, and street lampposts are placed on the square. These lampposts are specially designed for Lightemontion for the art center.
Designers focus on designing a flexible lighting system. As a cultural venue, the lighting system needs to be able to adapt to different customer groups and activities at different times. The main goal of the project is to create a more intense and harmonious experience through the illumination of the different elements to achieve the integration of lighting and architecture. A variety of light and shadows penetrate the entire space, while the dynamic wall display kitchen also adjusts the visual environment.
Different time periods, Espace culturel gives different lighting experiences. In the morning, the lights are comfortable and soft; in the evening, active and beating; at night, the whole space is transformed into a temporary performance center, echoing the cultural activities of the five performance halls, and the various lights are intertwined and complicated, making the space subtly change.
