Chen Weijun pointed out that Broadcom is optimistic about the development potential of automotive Ethernet and has launched BroadR-Reach technology, which uses a single unshielded twisted pair design and uses two-line Ethernet to treat four-line low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) systems. Effectively reducing the cost of cables by 80% and the weight of 30%, it has become increasingly popular with car manufacturers.
It is understood that the physical layer (PHY) chip and bridge switch of Broadcom BroadR-Reach have been adopted by BMW and Hyundai Motors. It is expected that new cars with Ethernet system will be released in 2014.
