India Energy Efficiency Bureau launches energy efficiency rating for LED lighting products

According to Indian media reports, the Energy Efficiency Bureau of India (BEE) has launched an energy efficiency rating (hereinafter referred to as "energy efficiency label"), similar to the US Energy Star.

According to the plan launched by BEE in early July, Indian LED manufacturers can voluntarily adopt their energy efficiency label before the end of December 2016. Thereafter, the government will mandate manufacturers to label energy-efficient labels on LED products.

The energy efficiency logo is divided into five levels, from one star to five stars, with five stars being the best rating. According to the standards set by BEE, LED lamps with a light efficiency range of 79~90 lm/W will receive a two-star rating; LED lamps with a temperature of 90~105 lm/W will receive a Samsung rating; LED lamps of 105~120 lm/W will receive four LEDs. Star rating; products with a luminous efficacy greater than 120 lm/W will receive a five-star rating. According to this division, a large number of LED products in the Indian market will be classified as second, Samsung energy efficiency rating.

In addition to the requirements for energy efficiency, BEE also requires the safety of these lighting products. Manufacturers need to ensure that products comply with various safety standards, such as photobiosafety.

At present, the Indian government is vigorously promoting the LED light source replacement project. At this time, it is very important to implement the energy efficiency labeling of LED lighting products. The Indian government plans to upgrade street lighting in 100 cities nationwide by March 2016.
