The VL6180X module is housed in a compact optical package of 4.8mm x 2.8mm x 1.0mm LGA12, which accurately measures target objects 100mm or more depending on the working environment. The module is equipped with an I2C interface and two programmable GPIO pins. The main controller controls the optical module through the I2C interface to read the data of the ranging or ambient light intensity; and the GPIO pin can be configured to perform the threshold application.
ST's new VL6180X Explorer evaluation kit allows designers to easily exploit the full potential of this proximity sensor module, allowing customers to quickly learn to use FlightSenseTM technology and support application development on real-world devices. The tool includes a pluggable USB interface, STM32Nucleo development board and VL6180X sensor expansion board. The VL6180X sensor expansion board integrates sensors, LED 4-digit display and ranging and ambient light sensing control switches. The display shows the target distance or ambient light intensity.
